Designing for Networked Leadership: Shifting from “What?” to “How?”

In early 2022, the Jim Joseph Foundation, in partnership with Maven Leadership Consulting, launched the Cohort-based Experiences (CBE) Initiative to test new models of learning and leadership development in cohort settings within the Jewish community.

We are now expanding the cohort experiment to three (3) new cohorts, and testing from January to April. We are looking for groups of Jewish professionals who want to learn and lead together. Are you interested in participating? There will be an Information Session on November 1 at 11am-12pm PT for Jewish professionals who want to learn more about being a part of a future cohort.

As the name suggests, the CBE was designed to test cohort models and provide insights about what makes cohort experiences so powerful, which elements most contribute to their success, and how we might  greatly expand and democratize the cohort-based learning experiences available in the Jewish communal ecosystem to support and nourish our Jewish educators and mid-career professionals.

Designing for Networked Leadership: Shifting from “What?” to “How?”

This guide is the third report in the Center for Creative Leadership’s ongoing Cross-Portfolio Research Study on leadership development in the Jewish social sector, which was commissioned by the Jim Joseph Foundation and began in 2018. Sources of data for our research include leadership development research and best practices, interviews with more than 80 successful Jewish leaders, surveys, program observation, evaluations, and emerging thought in Jewish leadership discourse, philanthropy, and other topics.

How are the values of networks and networked leadership a part of Jewish tradition?

ערבות - arevut = Mutual aid (responsibility, support) among Jews

ברית - brit = Covenant. Within the Torah there are different models of covenantal relationships. But at the core, a brit is more than the formalization of commitments between individuals and/or groups. A brit is a sacred promise.

מנהיגות - manhigoot = Leadership. As a verb and is located in behavior. Manheeg–מנהיג (leader), shares the Hebrew tri-part root for behavior (l’hitnaheg-להתנהג)
